WHAT THIS IS, AND ISN’T
This workshop will give you the tools you need to build a HIPAA compliance program; training on the fundamentals of HIPAA; tools to use to manage your service delivery; and follow-up guidance through the September deadline. It is intended to help managers of IT VARs and MSPs, that deliver services to health care clients, quickly implement a compliance program by the September 23, 2013, deadline. This is not an in-depth HIPAA certification class (available from Reflexion.) We recommend that class for owners of businesses, and their managers of service delivery, both to get a better understanding of HIPAA and to be able to leverage the certification in your marketing. The materials you will be provided are for use within your own company and not to resell or share to others. You will be given the opportunity to resell HIPAA tools and services to complement your IT service offerings.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT NOW?
The new 2013 HIPAA Omnibus Final Rule requires Business Associates, including VARs & MSPs that have access to patient data, to implement their own compliance programs by September 23. You are also responsible to ensure that any subcontractors you use— now including data centers, online backup providers, and Cloud vendors— comply with HIPAA and sign Business Associate Agreements. Penalties can exceed $ 1.5 million.
WHAT IS OUR GOAL FOR THE WORKSHOP?
We want to help you jump-start a compliance program that will sustain an audit or data breach investigation, and save a lot of time and money compared to doing it yourself. You will get tools (policies, procedures, and workforce training materials) plus HIPAA training and guidance on how to deliver and document HIPAA-compliant IT services. We will also discuss how you can monetize health care opportunities, including reselling HIPAA training and compliance services to your clients.
You will still have homework— getting your workforce trained; HIPAA-fying your service delivery; creating PSA templates for compliant services; and signing Business Associate Agreements with clients and subcontractors— but you should be able to do this prior to the September deadline.
WHAT IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS AFTER THE WORKSHOP?
We are providing free coaching and consulting to workshop attendees up until the September 23 deadline. We will answer questions or review your documents. Let us know what you need.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Whoever is responsible for service delivery in your organization should attend. Owners, service managers, etc.
WHAT MAKES THIS WORKSHOP DIFFERENT?
Other workshops are just presentations and speeches about the regulations, and tell you what you need to do. You leave with questions and proposals for compliance projects. This workshop gives you the tools you need, guidance on how to deliver HIPAA-compliant IT services, and follow-up consulting.
